What is non-commercial?

Within the context of the Creative Commons, non-commercial is one of the components used by the six creative commons licenses. With non-commercial, the author is allowing others to use, copy, display and perform the copyrighted work (or derivative works), as long as its being done so for a non-commercial purpose.
