What is the Creative Commons?

Many folks find the current copyright laws monolithic and old-fashioned, particularly in light of the digital age. In an attempt to come up with a new scheme of reasonable and workable copyright protection, Creative Commons was created. As explained on www.creativecommons.org, the goal of this nonprofit is to allow content creators to reserve important rights in their works while allowing and encouraging others to use the works in ways that the current copyright regime doesn’t necessarily allow for with explicit permission from the author.

The most widespread aspect of the Creative Commons, to date, has been the six creative common licenses.
