What are the requirements of a premarital agreement?

The Uniform Premarital Agreement Act provides for what is and is not acceptable in a premarital agreement. The Act sets out the proper way to structure a premarital agreement regarding ownership, management and control of property; how property would be distributed in the event of divorce or death; life insurance; and alimony. Though the Uniform Premarital Agreement Act has not been adopted in all states, most have something similar on the books. However, all states do assert that premarital agreements cannot apply to child support payments.
