Can I protect sound as a trademark?

Sounds can be protected as a trademark if they meet the requirements of trademark protection, and sounds can even be federally registered. The NBC chime is a well-known example of a sound which has been protected by trademark law, and the sound of a Harley Davidson motorcycle is a lesser- known sound which has also been recognized as a protected trademark.
